Team Support /Reception Apprentice

Level 2 Business Administration

Temporary for 1 Year

Salary: £14,514 p.a.

The Service The Carers Service provides support to unpaid carers through advice, break opportunities and group support and is part of Adult Social Care. We are here to help support people in Portsmouth to make the lifestyle choices that will aid them in living with an improved quality of life, and to remain independent, for longer. We focus on those most at risk by providing targeted services tackling health inequalities; training and working with other professionals to assure the conditions are there for people to take control of their health.

What is the role? This role is the front face / voice of the carers' service in Adult Social Care, as well as acute/ immediate back office support to the team. The role varies on a day to day basis from supporting carers via the telephone or face to face when they drop into the centre wanting advice / emotional support, to providing invaluable resource for any of the many projects that will be on the go at one time such as young carers summer activities for example tasks such as preparation of the letters/ schedules / booking processes. This can generate in excess 100 additional telephone contacts for booking or enquiries.

This is one project and the centre is involved in a variety of projects regularly. The centre is also home to more than eight groups made up of adults and mental health carers and service users which have put demands on the staff to support the groups need. This role is an additional resource which will triage and support the specialised functions of the wider team.

Who is the person?

You need to have:

• Good literacy and numeracy skills, ideally to GCSE level or equivalent in order to support the wider team with administration tasks. • Good IT skills with working knowledge of Microsoft office packages. • An understanding of carers needs • An awareness of Adult Social Care and the services it provides to the community. • An understanding of the third sector and volunteering. • Good communications skills, as you will be a focal point of people contacting the centre. • An ability to work individually and as part of the wider carer centre team. • The ability to stay calm under pressure • The ability to prioritise and organise your appropriately, with minimal reference to your Line Manager. • The ability to be discreet and tactful as you will be dealing with potentially delicate matters and have an understanding of confidentiality.
