Barnardo's works with children and young people who are in care or who have recently left care. Some of these children and young people may have no, or very little, contact with their families and for some the contact may not always be positive.
Independent visiting provides befriending and support to children and young people aged between 5 and 18 years, who are looked after by the Local Authority.
The Independent Visitor (IV) is a supportive adult volunteer who is a constant feature in the life of the child they are matched with, taking an active interest in their hopes and concerns, and being there to listen and help.

Within this rewarding role, the IV Coordinator recruits, trains and supports IV volunteer to balance their role of befriender to the child with the need to comply with confidentiality and safeguarding policies.

We are looking for an individual with demonstrable experience in a social care or similar setting wishing to further develop their skills in a sensitive and specialised area of work.
You must have experience and understanding of working with children or young people, and ideally knowledge or experience of children in care. Experience with children with disabilities is desirable.
You will have experience working in a multi-agency setting and be able to demonstrate assessment and risk assessment skills. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral and good IT skills are required. Experience of supervising, training and developing others (employees or volunteers) is essential. You will work in partnership with other agencies and have a thorough understanding of safeguarding and risk management.

This role is being recruited to part-time (20 hours per week) – please contact us for a more detailed discussion.
